Previous Best of Show winner at a Collin County Student Art Show was Michelle Larriva (right), shown with McKinney Art Club member Cindy Brown in 2016.

Continuing a tradition of celebrating the work of young artists, The Art Club of McKinney will present cash prizes and awards to the winners of the 2019 Collin County Student Art Show on Friday evening, Jan. 25. The opening celebration takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Cove (Cooperative Venue for Creatives), 502 North Tennessee Street, in McKinney. The exhibit will continue to be open to the public through the weekend, Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 27, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Show chair Maria Hampton, who has long been a part of the Art Club’s student art exhibit program, said, “We are thrilled to again have the support of a grant from the City of McKinney Arts Commission. That grant makes it possible to acknowledge student talent with generous prizes.” She invited the public to view the work of these young artists: “The Cove is right off The Square. We hope families and visitors will stop in to see the show during their daytime or evening visits to downtown McKinney.”

The competition is open to private, public and home-schooled students, grades 9 through 12 (14-18 years of age). Submissions are to be delivered to The Cove on Wednesday, Jan. 23, between 4 and 8 p.m. The judge for the show will be noted Los Angeles artist Murray Whiteman, who will be at the awards ceremony to talk to any of the students who want to discuss their work.

The prospectus, which spells out size requirements and other details for entries, is available on the Art Club’s website, www.theartclubofmckinney.com.
