Interim Chief John Bruce has a new title – Chief of Police of the Frisco Police Department. Chief Bruce will assume his new role effective February 1.
 
“I thank the city administrators for giving me this opportunity,” said Chief John Bruce. “It is a great honor.  The City of Frisco and the Police Department are great places to live and work. FPD has some of the best employees to be found.  I will continue building on past accomplishments to deliver the very best law enforcement possible.” 
 
Frisco’s Director of Public Safety Todd Renshaw announced Chief Bruce’s promotion today. 
 
“I have worked with John for many years in a number of assignments,” said Todd Renshaw, Frisco DPS. “He is a very capable, even-handed leader. I believe he will do a terrific job as Chief and I look forward to working with him for many years to come.”
 
Chief Bruce has been a police officer since 1986.  He joined the Frisco Police Department in 1996. He was named Assistant Police Chief in 2003 and promoted to interim Chief in October of last year.
 
Over the years, Chief Bruce’s supervisory duties have included patrol, investigations, traffic and community services.  He was responsible for implementing a records management system, mobile data computers, and a three-city trunked radio system. He has been responsible for developing and managing the department’s annual budget. Chief Bruce is also credited with leading the team initiative that obtained and maintains international accreditation for FPD.  
 
Since 2008, Chief Bruce has served as an assessor with the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies. He is an alumnus of both the FBI National Academy and the Leadership and Command College.
 
Chief Bruce holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (2002) and a Masters of Public Affairs (2004), both from the University of Texas at Dallas. Chief Bruce and his wife Anita have two sons.
