Students, faculty, and staff kicked off Texas A&M University College of Dentistrys 120^th anniversary celebration with a Sip and Celebrate party on Jan. 22. They sipped coffee and hot chocolate and ate churros.

The college opened Oct. 3, 1905, as State Dental College with 40 dental students. Total enrollment for 2024-25 is 580 dental students, graduate students, and dental hygiene students.

Coppell Lions Club were at the Back to School Fair at Irving Bible Church conducting Spot Vision Screening with the clubs Vision Screening Team led by Lions Tim Decker, Alice Decker, Ron Harrison, Kim Taylor, Kris Pollard, Margaret Meek, Scott Murdock and Debbie Goodwin. Great service project for the Lions. Students received uniforms, backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, Vision Screening, medical assessments and snacks.

Plano ISD Education Foundation Presents "Arts Inspire: A Celebration of the Arts with Daveed Diggs"

Daveed Diggs, Grammy- and Tony-award winning actor, writer, producer and musician, will participate in a moderated conversation during Arts Inspire: A Celebration of the Arts with Daveed Diggs, the inaugural event of the Plano ISD Education Foundations new lecture series celebrating the arts with the North Texas community.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, at the Robinson Fine Arts Center, 1800 Alma Drive, Plano, TX.

We are incredibly excited to host this event and bring the North Texas community together to celebrate the diverse and vibrant world of the arts, said Brittnea Ussery, senior executive director of the Plano ISD Education Foundation. With the exceptional talent of Daveed Diggs and the variety of artistic experiences we have planned, Arts Inspire will be a night to remember.

Award-winning actor/musician Daveed Diggs will discuss his career journey, from his breakout role as Thomas Jefferson and the Marquis de Lafayette in the original Broadway run of Hamilton, to his current projects in film, TV, theater and music. Diggs unique approach to art, blending traditional techniques with contemporary themes, has earned him international acclaim and a dedicated following.

The arts celebration includes a juried arts faculty showcase in the Legacy Art Gallery of the Center starting at 6:00 p.m. Plano ISD student performers representing theater, orchestra, band, choir and dance will celebrate the arts to open the event at 7:30 p.m.

The Arts Inspire series aims to raise funds and awareness for the Plano ISD Education Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the educational needs of students and teachers in the Plano Independent School District. Proceeds from Arts Inspire: Celebrating the Arts will directly benefit arts programming that enhances educational opportunities, fosters innovation in the classroom and provides vital resources for students and educators.

I am absolutely thrilled to see our students and community come together to celebrate the arts in such a meaningful way. The Arts Inspire series will not only showcase the incredible talent within our district but also emphasize the vital role of arts education in sparking creativity, critical thinking and passion among our students. We are deeply grateful to the Education Foundation for initiating this experience and providing our students with the opportunity to explore and pursue their artistic dreams, said Plano ISD Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams.

In addition to originating the fan-favorite role of Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson in Lin-Manuel Mirandas Hamilton, for which he won a Tony and Grammy in 2016, Diggs is also known for his roles in the critically acclaimed TV series Snowpiercer and a recurring guest role in the popular TV series Blackish. Diggs also serves as the vocalist of the experimental hip hop group Clipping, and he also co-wrote, produced and stars in the film Blindspotting.

Through events like Arts Inspire: Celebrating the Arts, the Plano ISD Education Foundation aims to provide a platform for artists to share their work and inspire future generations.

Park Place Lexus Plano recognized Allen Independent School District Teachers of the Year, Solomon Boatfield and Sarah Twedt. Boatfield was named Elementary Teacher of the Year and Twedt was recognized as Secondary Teacher of the Year for AISD.

The two Allen ISD teachers were offered their choice to drive a Lexus IS or NX for the 2024 summer, two tickets to a Texas Rangers game with a parking pass and access to the Lexus Lounge that includes an all you can eat buffet and drinks of choice. The teachers also received four passes to the Dallas Arboretum, and other Park Place swag.

$65,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS GIVEN AT 13TH ANNUAL BROADWAY DALLAS HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS

High school students, teachers, parents, friends, arts advocates, celebrities and city officials celebrated as winners and scholarship recipients were announced at the 13^th Annual Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards (HSMTA). The ceremony was hosted by Dallas native and two-time HSMTA winner Haley Dortch and took place live at the Music Hall at Fair Park on Friday, May 24, featuring student performances, award presentations including $65,000 in scholarships, and acceptance speeches from the winners.

The Broadway Dallas HSMTA aim to inspire and honor excellence in high school musical theater, and to recognize the importance of musical theater and arts education within the North Texas community. This regional program culminates at the Music Hall with an awards ceremony, modeled after the Tony Awards®, to recognize outstanding musical theater productions and students.

The 2024 Outstanding Musical Award went to Rowlett High Schools production of Six and the awards for Outstanding Lead Performer were presented to Damson Chola Jr. (Cleburne High School) and Fabiola Caraballo Quijada (Tyler Legacy High School). "We say this every year, but its true the Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards is the most special night of the year, said Ken Novice, president and CEO of Broadway Dallas. "Were beyond proud to celebrate the hard work of these students and witness their talent on stage. Congratulations to all the 2024 nominees and winners!"

A total of 79 productions from 73 participating high schools were evaluated by a diverse group of highly qualified judges from the North Texas theater community. Awards were presented in 15 categories and scholarships were awarded to outstanding graduating seniors who apply and selected by the Broadway Dallas scholarship panel. Through funds raised by private donations, Broadway Dallas HSMTA awards $65,000 in scholarships to deserving students. To date, Broadway Dallas HSMTA College Scholarship program has awarded more than $500,000 in cash scholarships to deserving students.

The live ceremony was hosted by Dallas native Haley Dortch, who won the Broadway Dallas HSMTA Outstanding Lead Performer two times and is starring as Fantine in the national tour of Les Misérables.

Dallas Lutheran School is pleased to announce the board of directors has hired Betsy Graham as Head of School for the north Dallas High School and Middle School.

Graham is currently the principal of the kindergarten-8^th grade school at Prince of Peace Christian School in Carrollton where she has served for 22 years.

We are thrilled to announce the hiring of Betsy Graham as our new head of school to lead our school, said Rick Myers, President, DLS Board of Directors.

Graham, who has a Masters of Education (M. Ed) is an experienced educator who has been a critical part of the leadership team at Prince of Peace for 11 years, leading up to 450 students and over 45 staff members at a time. Recently, she was nominated by the POPCS staff to receive the Texas District Educator of the Year Award.

She plans to have a detailed and innovative approach to the development of the people, programs, and places that make up Dallas Lutheran.

What stands out to me about Dallas Lutheran is what I thought was a catchphrase, turned out to be completely legitimateLions Pride. Everyone absolutely loves this school, and I am thrilled to join a dedicated team that is embracing the heritage of nearly 50 years of ministry, building on the past to create a great future that will impact eternity, Betsy Graham, Head of School, Dallas Lutheran School.

Graham previously also served on the board of the Texas Institute for Teacher Education. She completed her B.S. in Education at Concordia UniversityWisconsin in 2001, and her M. Ed at the University of North Texas in 2008.

Betsy Graham is the perfect person to lead our school. She has all of the qualities we wanted in a new leader for our school. We have been so impressed with Betsy from the first time we spoke with her and all throughout the process of getting to know her as a strong leader, said Mark Couser, DLS Board Member and Head of the Call Committee

Dallas Lutheran suffered damage to its classrooms and administrative buildings during the tornado that hit the schools campus in 2019. Since then, the school has been serving students in portable buildings as they have undergone a capital campaign to raise the money necessary to rebuild.

The current graduation class of 45 students were 8^th graders when the tornado hit. Grahams first goal will be to rebuild the admission pipeline through innovative scholarship offerings and new academic vigor including STEM and AP classes at nearby Dallas College in Richardson.

It is a difficult assignment but one that Graham is ready for.

I am ready to hit the ground running at DLS. We are truly blessed to have an incredible staff of loving and nurturing teachers who truly care for and invest in our student/staff relationships. And, we have a dialed-in and supportive parent teacher organization that invests in our school annually. Working with our board, I am confident that together, we will get through this situation and look forward to breaking ground on our new building in the coming year, said Graham.

Dallas Lutheran will begin its 49^th year of serving the families of north Dallas this August.

Texas Womens Foundation has announced its Leadership Forum & Awards Celebration on April 30, 2024, at the Omni Dallas Hotel (555 S. Lamar St, Dallas, TX 75202). This day of learning, leadership and celebration starts with #BESTSELF, a half-day empowerment program for teen girls. Next, the event features Leadership Forums with the 2024 Maura Women Helping Women and Young Leader recipients discussing their journey. Finally, the evening concludes with the Awards Celebration and dinner, led by Deborah Roberts, Senior National Affairs Correspondent, ABC News Co-Anchor, ABC 20/20. Cynt Marshall, Dallas Mavericks CEO, will moderate a discussion with Roberts.

Monica Christopher installed as Texas Womans University inaugural Dallas campus president

On Wednesday, March 27th, Texas Womans University marked a significant milestone as Monica Christopher was formally installed as the inaugural president of the Dallas campus, culminating as a poignant addition to Womens History Month. The ceremony, held at the TWU T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences Dallas Center, located in the Southwestern Medical District, was accompanied by a vibrant celebration and reception attended by esteemed dignitaries.

Celebrating the enduring stability rooted in Texas Woman's 120-year legacy in Texas including 70 years in Dallas, the event spotlighted the institution's commitment to innovation and inclusivity. Chancellor Carine Feyten delivered a keynote address, underscoring the importance of diverse voices in shaping TWU's future.

Other speakers included Dr. Ann Stuart, TWU chancellor emerita, who shared anecdotes of TWU's history and her instrumental role in establishing the Dallas campus during her tenure as the inaugural chancellor. Dale A. Petroskey, president and CEO of the Dallas Regional Chamber, expressed enthusiasm for Christopher's leadership at TWU Dallas and emphasized the pivotal role of innovation in healthcare workforce development.

Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, president of UT Southwestern Medical Center, highlighted TWU Dallas's impactful presence in the Medical District and its collaborative efforts with UT Southwestern in advancing healthcare research. Furthermore, last September marked the launch of Dream Big, Texas Womans University's first comprehensive fundraising campaign. Prestonwood Christian Academy School System is proud to announce that Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) again awarded Exemplary Accreditation for another five years.

ACSI Exemplary Accreditation is designed for high performing schools who are seeking to be held to higher standards for all programs and operations. Exemplary schools are expected to effectively meet the Inspire standards and indicators at a high level as well as the modified and additional indicators contained within the Exemplary Addendum.

We just went through the ACSI accreditation process, and it was a big deal, said Dr. Michael Goddard, PCA Superintendent. Sometimes you hear about Christian schools or private schools not having a lot of accountability, but thats just not true. We went through a hard process that has taken multiple months.

In addition to simply meeting the indicators at an effective or highly effective level, an ACSI school must have a demonstrable history of exemplary programs and practices in governance, executive leadership, school viability, academic instruction, student learning, spiritual formation, and overall school culture (a vibrant, Christ-centered ethos among students, faculty, and leadership). The school must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing school improvement, evidenced by stakeholder feedback, multiple forms of data, and past accreditation reports to drive successful school improvement initiatives.

ACSI accredits hundreds of schools. We did the math and about 2% of their schools achieve Exemplary status, said Dr. Shannon Cole, Assistant Superintendent and PCA Plano Head of School. I am so grateful for families who sacrifice to have their students here. As I think about our Academic offering, I want parents to know the value of what they are getting. Our teachers are exemplary, and that is why we have obtained this incredible status!

Texas Womans University has named longtime nonprofit executive and community relations veteran Monica Christopher as the inaugural president of the universitys Dallas campus. She begins her role on Feb. 1.

Christopher, who has held key fundraising and relationship building posts spanning 25 years at Communities Foundation of Texas and The Dallas Morning News/WFAA, will lead the Dallas campus as it works to elevate the impact of the campus in the Dallas community.

Monica is an exceptional innovator and collaborator with a solid track record of successful fundraising and relationship building in Dallas, which will serve Texas Womans well in its quest to grow the Dallas campus, Texas Womans Chancellor Carine Feyten said.

Her Dallas roots run deep, and she has an extensive background working with boards, foundations, nonprofits and corporations. With her leadership at Texas Womans ? Dallas and her partnership with other university and college leaders, I can see Dallas developing into even more of a destination city for those seeking higher education credentials, Feyten added. About Monica Christopher

Christopher is the inaugural president of Texas Womans Dallas campus. A seasoned fundraiser and community relations professional, she has served in key positions in both areas for the last 25 years, forging numerous successful private-public sector partnerships and amassing extensive experience in cultivating and stewarding major donors, grant making, program management, and public speaking. During her 15-year tenure at Dallas-based Communities Foundation of Texas, she rose to the level of senior vice president and chief giving and community impact officer, leading several teams in fundraising efforts that set new benchmarks in gifts and funds created. While at The Dallas Morning News/WFAA, she also held several positions over nearly 10 years in community relations aimed at building community engagement, raising brand awareness and coordinating charity events. Additional leadership roles for Christopher include involvement in the Dallas Regional Chamber, Dallas Summit, Junior League of Dallas, Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, and the Womens Auxiliary at Childrens Medical Center, among other organizations.

Young Womens Preparatory Network (YWPN) is thrilled to announce that six students from Dallas Irma Lerma Rangel Young Womens Leadership School have been named QuestBridge Match Scholars.

YWPNs mission is to support single-gender, college-preparatory, public education in Texas and beyond, giving young women the academic and leadership skills to achieve success in college and in life. YWPN formed the first public/private partnership with the Dallas Independent School District in August 2004, opening the Irma Lerma Rangel Young Womens Leadership School, the first all-girls public school in Texas.

"Six QuestBridge matches is a phenomenal accomplishment for our school. There are entire districts in our area that received four or five matches, and we have SIX matches at Rangel. QuestBridge is a prestigious program that connects high-achieving, low-income students with full scholarships to the nation's best colleges. These colleges recognize the academic talent and potential of QuestBridge Match Scholars and commit to fully funding their four-year education, removing financial barriers and opening doors to top-tier institutions.

QuestBridge: Out of over 20,800 applicants, QuestBridge selected 6,683 finalists to be considered for the QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship (Match Scholarship). This year, QuestBridges 50 college partners matched with 2,242 Finalists, who are recognized as Match Scholarship Recipients. The Match Scholarship is made up of a generous financial aid package provided by the college that covers the total cost of attendance, including tuition, housing and food, books and supplies, and travel expenses.
