August 29th, 2015 will mark an exciting new chapter in the history of St. Philip’s Frisco. Nearly 14 years ago to the day, 10 acres of land were purchased on the NW corner of Stonebrook and Dallas Parkways on which church buildings have stood since 2006.
St. Philip’s has grown into a thriving ‘community of communities’ that includes a church of over 1,200 members, St. Philip’s Preschool (for ages 30 months – Transitional Kindergarten) and St. Philip’s Academy (grades K-4). Dynamic and active ministries thrive, meeting needs for all ages. Ever-growing partnerships in the community have launched The Bright Zone, an ongoing outreach program serving neighboring children and their families through mentorship, reading programs and provision of various life essentials. Further-reaching partnerships stretch globally and include long-standing relationships with communities in Peru, India and Belize.
On Saturday, August 29th at 10:00 am, St. Philip’s will officially commission its second Rector, Reverend Greg Methvin. The entire community is welcome to attend this service of celebration. Although new to the leadership of St. Philip’s (he has been serving as Rector since March 29th), Methvin has been a longtime friend of the parish – ministering as both a preacher and speaker. “For years I watched St. Philip’s grow – both in passion and mission. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to now make it my home and serve this community of faith as we walk into God’s great future for Frisco and the world.”
An ordained priest for ten years, Methvin has been serving in ministry for 30 years. Prior to serving at St. Philip’s, he served as Vice Rector at Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, as well as Christ Church in Plano. He received his Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Seminary and New Orleans Baptist Seminary and earned his certificate in Anglican Studies from Perkins Seminary at Southern Methodist University.
As St. Philip’s begins this next chapter, the church will link arms with other churches throughout the region to offer those asking spiritual questions to Explore God with us. For seven weeks, September 13-October 25, we will discuss the most challenging questions that confront each of us.
