Mustang Creek Estates of Frisco Team Takes Residents for a Fishing Trip

There are not a lot of people who consider their job a hobby as well, but Joe Surovik, resident at Mustang Creek Estates of Frisco, is one of the lucky ones. His father used to take him fishing starting at age four, and since then Joe knew fishing would be part of his entire life. He is a retired commercial fisherman of 40 years and fished with his children during his free time. Joe’s favorite part about fishing – next to the adrenaline and excitement of catching the fish – is the peace and quiet of the great outdoors. One of the biggest fish he ever caught was a 640 lb. mako shark in the Gulf of Mexico, and he says it was the best he ever tasted. Surovik used to spend all day by the water; he would go when the sun came out and return at dark. Because the team at Mustang Creek Estates of Frisco knows how much Joe loves fishing, they recently took him and a few other residents on a fishing trip to Caddo Mills. Surovik was excited to share his passion for fishing with other residents, and he enjoyed telling them his favorite fishing stories.

“There is nothing quite like the feeling of catching a fish,” said Surovik. “I started fishing as a young child. It’s peaceful and exciting at the same time, that’s why I enjoy it. I always used to take my children, just like my father took me. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I am thankful the Mustang Creek Estates team took us for this trip. It is important for us to keep doing the things we love as we age, as it sparks memories from my younger years while helping me create new ones. It was fun, and I believe other residents had a blast too.”

Mustang Creek Estates of Frisco always looks for ways to help seniors live out and share their passions, dreams and hobbies with others. They are happy to give residents access to fun and engaging activities from their younger years which they wouldn’t have access to otherwise. In addition, fishing has many benefits for the seniors, as they get to enjoy outdoors, relax and socialize.

“It brought us tremendous joy to give Joe something to look forward to and provide an opportunity to show off his fishing skills to other residents and the team,” said Candy Jiwa, executive director of Mustang Creek Estates of Frisco. “We love giving our residents unique experiences, and we believe in including activities that speak to the specific hobbies or preferences of our residents. Our team works hard to ensure the residents have a variety of social and fitness activities to choose from to keep them active and engaged.”

Mustang Creek Estates – whose mission is to provide seniors with high-quality residential-style assisted living and memory care at an affordable price – has additional locations in Allen, Burleson and Keller. Recently, Mustang Creek Estates opened its newest senior living community in Sachse.
