Centennial Medical Center was recently named one of the Dallas Business Journal’s Healthiest Employers in North Texas for its strong commitment to creating a healthy workplace. Centennial earned the No. 15 ranking in the large company category.

“We are honored to be recognized for this award for the second year in a row,” said Stephanie Talley, Centennial’s chief human resources officer. "Our mission at Centennial is to care completely for our patients and that includes making sure our staff are safe and healthy. It's important that we find creative ways to ensure our employees also practice a full, healthy lifestyle."

The annual Healthiest Employers awards program evaluates organizations using six key categories: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and interventions and reporting and analysis. With more than 500 employees, Centennial was selected in the large company category, along with 19 other companies.

“Centennial inspired me to lead a healthy lifestyle through its healthy Tenet challenges,” said Courtney Trindade, a radiology technologist in imaging services at Centennial. “Challenges such as the stair stepper activity and the water intake challenge helped me realize I was out of shape and did not drink enough water each day. Because of this program I now have a continuous workout plan and I eat healthier meals. I started my weight loss journey more than 15 months ago and have lost a total of 60 pounds and counting.”

In its efforts to promote employee healthy living year round, Centennial implements a variety of wellness programs, including an incentivized point system. The human resources department plans healthy activities and challenges regularly and tracks point accumulations for participating employees. Those who amass more than 100 credits over the course of the year are eligible to receive monetary incentives or deposits into their health savings accounts.

“As we work to bring the best quality of care to our patients, we also look out for the well-being of our employees,” said Joe Thomason, Centennial’s chief executive officer. “Not only are we proud to win this award, but it is a testament to our staff's dedication to their health. This internal motivation from colleagues helps motivate the Centennial family to continue working hard while promoting a healthy lifestyle inside and outside of the workplace.”

Centennial adds this Healthiest Employer award to its growing list of award and accreditation's including recent Cigna Center of Excellence designations, a UnitedHealth Premium® Cardiac Services specialty care center designation, a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and an A Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group.
