Frisco is casting some guaranteed fun! The eighth annual Trick-A-Trout Kid Fish will be held Saturday, February 9 at Frisco Commons, located at 8000 McKinney Road. The event begins at 8:00 a.m. and runs until 11:00 a.m.  More than 3,100 Rainbow Trout will be released into the pond located north of the park’s main pavilion. 

"Trick-A-Trout is a great opportunity for first time anglers to come out and learn about the sport of fishing,” said Bobby Johnson, Manager of Parks Services.  “Only kids (16-years or younger) will be allowed to fish for the first three hours so they’ll have a chance to really hone their fishing skills. The average fish size is eight to ten inches and the daily bag limit is five per person.”   

Open season for adult anglers will start at 11:00 a.m. Anyone 17 years old and over is required to have a Texas Fishing License. Licenses can be obtained at most sporting good stores.

Everyone is encouraged to keep what they catch since trout cannot survive when water temperatures rise in the spring.  This event is ‘rain or shine’, so dress for the weather.  

Participants will need to bring their own bait and tackle. Tips for successful fishing include using a lightweight line (4-6 lbs. test), small hooks and small sinkers.   Baits can include live worms, power bait, whole kernel corn, cheese, salmon eggs, marshmallows or small artificial lures. The first twenty-five kids to catch a trout will receive a rod and reel combo set. 

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department regularly stocks the pond with channel catfish and largemouth black bass.  The TP&WD also regularly stocks the ponds at Warren Sports Complex and Harold Bacchus Community Park. After the Trick-A-Trout, people can fish at the pond until the trout are gone. Park hours are from dawn until dusk.
