Solving Summer Plans? It's as Easy as FPL

Around Frisco, everyone knows FPL means Frisco Public Library. When it comes to summer, however, those initials can take on all new meanings. Here’s how the Library has you covered for Family, Play, and Learning all summer long.

The Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge is back – and this year there’s a party! The challenge runs May 30 – August 14. Sign up as an individual or family at friscolibrary.com/summer. Like years past, infants through teens will earn coupons for free items or experiences when they complete 300 and 600 minutes of reading. The big news is that the Library is hosting a Challenge Accepted! party on August 8 to celebrate summer reading. Hosted on the plaza in front of City Hall, there will be performers, crafts, and treats for all. Of course, the biggest prize that comes with summer reading is the confidence that participants have when they return to school in the fall.

WOW! Wednesdays will rock your socks off! The same type of great elementary programming you’re used to on Mondays during past summers will be in Council Chambers on Wednesdays this year. Mark your calendars and check friscolibrary.com/calendar to see what’s in store each week.

Jim Gill, musician, author, and child development specialist is returning for a summer concert! Friends age 2 – 6 and their families won’t want to miss the stories, songs, and laughter on June 4, 10:30 am, in Council Chambers. Space is limited. First come, first seated.

Family fun at Family Science Night and Family Tech Night. These annual STEM extravaganzas are can’t miss summer fun for the whole family. More than a dozen partners will feature hands-on activities and there will be frozen treats to ward off the summer heat. Family Science Night is on the plaza, Thursday, June 6, 6 – 8 pm. Family Tech Night will be library-wide on Thursday, July 25, 6 – 8 pm.

Did you say teens? We sure did—and we’ve got your teen events covered. In addition to summer staples like Tech Teens and Anime Club, the Library is taking it to the next level. FPL Zombie Apocalypse, Tuesday, June 26, 3 – 4:30 pm, will test teen team problem solving as they work to survive the invasion. Another can’t miss event, the Stranger Things Party will pile on games, crafts, and waffles, as inspired by the show.

Grownups get summer perks, too! Frisco Library knows that good times and good learning don’t stop just because you’ve had some extra birthdays. Those wanting to get up to speed in the latest tech can attend classes in coding, AI, app development, Canva graphics, and beginning 3D Design. If you’ve already been bit by the tech bug, don’t miss Dev Day, Saturday, June 22, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Ages 13 and up can gain inspiration, skill, and network building at this software development and coding event. Go to friscolibrary.com/event/dev-day for details.

But wait, there’s more! We’re going retro for Retro Gaming XL!!! We’ll provide the vintage consoles. You bring your mad gaming skills for an afternoon of fun, Saturday, July 6, 1 – 4 pm, in Council Chambers. Ages 13 + are welcome.

Uke Can Do It! Don’t know how to play ukulele? We can help with that! This introductory ukulele course will be music to your ears. Saturday, June 1, 2:00- 3:00 pm, McCallum Room.
