When thinking about Frisco as the Best Place to Live in the US, most of us consider the stellar school district, pervasive affluence, and fact that, as an international draw for business relocation, we have a skyline populated by some of the biggest names in news. At Hack Your Career Day (HYCD) at Frisco Public Library (FPL) on Saturday, participants saw that the best place to live is as focused on the success of current residents as on attracting new ones.

“I’m just so proud my city offers something like this,” said a guest at Kevin Green’s resume creation/editing presentation. That enthusiasm was echoed throughout the day.

Michelle T. discussed the importance of HYCD while waiting for her complimentary head shot. “I was recently laid off so, as an individual that’s been in a career for a while, I wanted to see what’s new and different. I want to make sure I present myself in the correct way. This event is all I hoped for and more!”

It can be hard to negotiate the road to a better job or new career. HYCD assembled a top-notch team of presenters to empower guests at every step. Emcee and entrepreneur in his own right, Suad Bejtovic facilitated sessions in Council Chambers, ensuring everyone got the most they could from the day’s events.

Kevin Green demystified goal-setting and resume creation/editing while sharing his passion for helping others realize success.

“I think that an event like this gives the community an opportunity to really launch into their careers, into their business,” said Green. “And it’s such an investment in our future. I think it’s fantastic and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

The “Build Your Career” track also featured a presentation about interview best practices by Ann Anderson, and one on using graphic design tool, Canva, to highlight accomplishments, presented by FPL staff member, Cassie Wickline.

Those in attendance for the “Work Smarter” track got caught up in energetic and enlightening presentations. Roxanne “Roxy” Verrelli from UNT shared her story about transitioning careers to guide others in their journey.

Dave Quinn applied his signature high energy and positivity while teaching audience members how to make sure their LinkedIn profiles show them in the best light. After the event, Dave raved, on LinkedIn, of course, “What an awesome event! You have no idea how impactful this is!”

Serial entrepreneur Erin Smith wrapped up the day with a powerful presentation about uncovering and embracing the entrepreneur in each of us. She shared valuable insights from her book, Master the Start: 10 Steps to Get Out of Your Own Way and Create Your Dream Business.

It takes a lot to be the best. On Saturday, Hack Your Career Day helped hundreds of people in the Best Place to Live discover personal bests and how to achieve their best professional futures.
