Frisco ISD Fine Arts Director Jim McDaniel has been honored by the Texas Bandmasters Association with the 2013 Lifetime Administrator Achievement Award for outstanding commitment to music education.
TBA President Alfredo Vélez III presented the award to McDaniel during the 66th Annual TBA Convention/Clinic on July 21 in San Antonio. More than 6,000 band directors, music teachers and university music students from across the state attended the convention.
McDaniel has more than 38 years of experience working in music education. He led the fine arts departments in Bryan ISD and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD before joining Frisco ISD as the Director of Fine Arts in June 2012.
McDaniel earned both his Bachelor of Music Education and his Masters of Music Education from Texas Christian University. He worked as a professional trumpet player in college and directed bands at Texas Christian University, Texas A&M University and at high schools in Dallas and Arlington.
McDaniel is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu National Honorary Bandmasters Fraternity and Texas Music Administrators Conference. He has served on the UIL Music Advisory Board, the Texas Coalition for Quality Arts Education and as Region Band Chair/President for both Region V and Region VIII and Past President of the Texas Music Administrators Conference. He currently serves as the Executive Secretary for UIL Region 24, conducts the Carrollton Wind Symphony and co-chairs the Texas Music Assessment Project.
McDaniel is a frequent guest lecturer at various colleges as well as a clinician and judge in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Colorado. He has presented workshops at TMEA, TBA and many school districts.
McDaniel was named Outstanding TCU Band Alumni, the Texas Music Administrators Conference Administrator of the Year for 2010 and has been inducted into the TCU Band of Fame.
