Hackathon With a Cause

Coming this week, Frisco Public Library challenges you to learn powerful new skills in coding so you can tap into and influence the digital world around you. May the Code be with you!

Hack DFW will host an all-day Hackathon at the Library Makerspace on Saturday, May 13, from 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Attendees will collaborate in groups to create an app that benefits the community. Specifics detailing the purpose of the app will be provided at the event. Refreshments will be provided, and Star Wars cosplay is encouraged. Teams will reconvene on Sunday, May 14 from 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM to put finishing touches on their projects before the judges select winners and prizes are awarded. Participants will need to register for the event online at friscolibrary.com/hackathon, but there is no fee to attend.

The Hackathon is open to all adults and self-guided teens comfortable with working in an adult atmosphere. “This is the Hackathon you are looking for,” says senior librarian Adam Lamprecht. “It is going to be an awesome opportunity to meet people and develop your skills.”

Don’t feel ready to jump in and code? Come to the Coding Bootcamp, offered from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Library Makerspace on Monday, May 8 and again at the same time on Thursday, May 11. There you will learn from a librarian skilled in the ways of the Code.

You do not have to attend one of the Coding Bootcamps in order to register for the Hackathon.

Remember to register for the Hackathon at friscolibrary.com/hackathon, and the Code will be with you, always.
