Sensory Backpacks Help Build Life Skills

When life for kids gets overwhelming, Frisco Public Library’s new collection of Sensory Backpacks can help.  Filled with resources to help young students develop the tools for success, the backpacks come in four themes:  “Anxiety”, “Calm Down”, “Focus”, and “Social Skills”.  These topics and the backpacks’ contents have been carefully researched to address some of children’s most commonly pressing issues in a constructive fashion.

“Sensory Backpacks are a resource we hope will benefit any family exploring these topics or working on these crucial skills,” explains Youth Services Librarian Bonnie Barber.  “We couldn’t have brought this collection to the Frisco community without invaluable help from Colleen Kugler of FISD’s Parent Training Team.”

Each backpack contains a combination of:  books, activity inserts, interactive sensory objects, and other tools.  The backpacks are available to all ages but it should be noted that some contain small parts which are choking hazards and can be more safely used by students in kindergarten and older.

Members can check out up to two backpacks for two weeks at a time. Find more information about Sensory Backpacks, check for availability, and learn more about the Library at friscolibrary.com.
