Twenty-two middle and high school students from Frisco pitched their business ideas before a panel of seven real-life investors to compete for funding at the Annual Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Investor Panel Presentation Event at the Frisco Career & Technical Education Center. The students presented before representatives from some of the area’s biggest companies as well as an audience filled with family, friends and members of the community, for the opportunity to gain funding for their original ideas- that could be the next big thing!

The Investor Panel Event is one of the program’s three “big events” that take place over the duration of the nine-month program.  On Tuesday night, the Investor Panel donated monetary contributions and in-kind donations, as well as their support and encouragement in their belief that they too can make a job- not take a job- at any age!

The investor panel consisted of the following business professionals:

Cheryl Alston, Representative for the Greater Frisco Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

Dianna Manuel, Principal-Frisco ISD Career & Technical Education Center

Jason Young, General Manager-Nordstrom Stonebriar Centre

Keirth Sivarajah, CEO Madd App Design

Laurie Latham, CFO Quest Resource Holding and Quest Resource Management Group

Malcolm Farmer, President/Director of Basketball Operations-Texas Legends

Stefanie E. Wagoner, Frisco Economic Development Corporatio

The Investment Panel chose K9 Kompassion as the 2014 Frisco YEA! Investment winner. A three partner company; Emily Hickman, 12 years old who attends Cobb Middle School, Paul Holland, 12 years old who attends Maus Middle School, and KeMoi Powell, 11 years old who attends Wester Middle School. K9 Kompassion uses leftover leather to manufacture leather collars for dogs, and will give 10 percent of the net profit to the ASPCA.

The students will now begin marketing and selling their products and services, and preparing for the YEA! Trade Show to showcase their goods to the general public.  The Trade Show will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014  from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Food Court at the Stonebriar Centre in Frisco, Texas.  This event is free and open to the public.
