Educators, students and families at Frisco ISD’s Isbell Elementary School celebrated the school’s 10 year anniversary during the annual Spring Carnival on Friday, April 11, 2014.
Families were asked to bring a canned food item to donate to Frisco Family Services in exchange for entry to the spring carnival. In all, more than 1,100 pounds of food was collected for needy families.
Guests enjoyed food, games and lots of other fun activities to mark the milestone.
A special reception in the library honored all past and present staff members, PTA Lifetime members and the school’s first PTA board.
Principal Serita Dodson challenged staff members to remember various facts about the year Isbell opened in 2004. In pop culture, American Idol was the top show on television and "Hey Ya!" by OutKast topped the charts.
Staff members who opened the school that year also shared their memories.
Kindergarten teacher Van Riblehuber fondly remembers the race to prepare her classroom for the school’s first students.
“I was hired the Thursday before school started and started working that Friday,” she said. “I only had a few hours to prepare my classroom for Meet the Teacher Night. My husband and I worked all weekend to make sure everything was ready to welcome students on Monday.”
Among the evening’s special guests was school namesake Eloise Isbell, who served as the librarian for Frisco schools for 18 years.
