Vik Shirvaikar and Liberty Principal Scott Warstler

A junior from Liberty High School has joined a growing number of Frisco ISD students to earn a perfect score on one of the two leading college admissions exams.

Vik Shirvaikar recently received a perfect score of 2400 on the SAT – a total combining test results from three 800-point sections including mathematics, critical reading and writing.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I had my mom double check that I wasn’t seeing things.”

To the District’s knowledge, only one other FISD student – Frisco High School graduate Steven Zhu, a member of the Class of 2007 – has earned a perfect score on the SAT.

In 2013, only 494 of the more than 1.6 million students who took the exam received the highest possible score. That’s approximately 0.03 percent of the total group of test takers.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Vik and one that we all join him in celebrating,” said Liberty Principal Scott Warstler. “His success on the SAT will undoubtedly serve him well as he prepares for the future.”

In 2013, the average combined SAT score was 1423 for students in Texas and 1474 for students across the nation. The average score in Frisco ISD was 1587.

Shirvaikar prepared for the test on his own – but credits a course in Advanced Placement (AP) English for helping him learn how to spot and analyze clues critical in understanding complicated text.

His advice to other students?

“Be familiar with what they are going to expect from you,” he said. “That way, you don’t have to spend time with instructions. Keep your mind alert and be ready to think fast.”

Shirvaikar has attended FISD schools since kindergarten, including Anderson Elementary, Fowler Middle School and Liberty High School. He is the son of Mukul and Anjali Shirvaikar of Plano.

He hopes to study economics in college – a plan that will surely get a boost from his top score.

“It definitely creates a lot of opportunity,” Shirvaikar said. “I was thinking I’d have to take the SAT again, but I guess I got lucky the first time.”

At least five FISD students have earned a perfect composite score of 36 on the ACT, including Centennial High School senior Gianna Mason, Heritage High School senior Revanth Poondla, Liberty junior Trent Sandland, 2013 Liberty graduate Tiffany Kuan and 2012 Liberty graduate Yueheng Zhang.
