During Special Program Time the Explorers Classroom children engage in activities such as Primrose Promise Giving Events. During this unit, Keeping Promises: Ways to Help Others, the children will engage in an authentic community-service project. During this project children learn about the Primrose Design Thinking Process which has three steps:

  1. Use Our Happy Hearts

  2. Think with Our Active Minds

  3. Share the Fun!

For this community-service project we will partner with City House in Plano. Please read the below information for this organization.

All families are invited to donate items for our Explorers Program Project by January 31, 2019. The Explorers Children, their Families, and Primrose staff will volunteer their time, at our school, on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 10:00AM – 11:30AM to put together Welcome Bags and Snack Bags.

PRIMROSE DESIGN THINKING PROCESS

USE OUR HAPPY HEARTS

Using your Happy Heart is all about understanding the problem you are trying to tackle.  This is a very important step and involves the ability to understand the problem from someone else’s point of view.

  • Fully understand the “problem” that needs to be solved

  • Empathy (Can you feel like the other person feels?)

  • Perspective-taking (Understand how someone else sees the problem)

  • Describe the problem in detail so someone else can understand it

THINK WITH OUR ACTIVE MINDS

Thinking with Our Active Minds is about using your creativity to come up with potential solutions, prototypes, and ideas.  Always keep the problem in mind and try to find solutions that meet the needs of the people involved.

  • Be creative in thinking of ideas to solve the problem

  • Experiment

  • Sketch possible solutions

  • Create prototypes (models)

SHARE THE FUN

Sharing the Fun is all about sharing your potential solutions with others.  Try ideas out and, if they do not work, try again! Get feedback from others and redo your model (prototype).  “Failing” is an important part of the testing phase, so don’t be afraid to fail and try something new!  The best inventions in the world came from failed ideas that were revised and made into new ones!

  • Experiment with prototypes

  • Make new prototypes based on results

  • Share ideas with other and ask for their ideas
