7 Notes, The First Yamaha Music School in Dallas Metroplex,

Hits the Right Note with Kids and Parents

FRISCO, Texas (March 31, 2014)—From the very first note, it is clear that the 7 Notes music school is far from the traditional concept of music education–whether that conjures the image of a kind, little old lady from down the street who gives piano lessons in her home, or the large school where students practice scales over and over again in a cavernous room filled with other fledgling musicians.

“We believe that music should be fun, interactive, and just as important, it should lead to real results,” said Eileen Tan, education director at 7 Notes, which began operations in Frisco, Texas in mid-2013. “With that approach, and using the Yamaha Music Education System as our foundation, kids and parents have come to see that 7 Notes is the industry leader in children’s music education.”

Tan encourages parents to tour the school at 2787 Preston Road in the Stonebriar Centre Mall (near Toys R Us).

The first and only Yamaha Music School in the Dallas Metroplex area, 7 Notes is building on the success of its other children’s music education schools in Toronto, which use the same non-traditional, research-based curriculum it developed in 2001.

Tan said that the Yamaha Music Education System is beneficial to young students on several levels. “First, the group approach to learning music that’s been developed by Yamaha makes the lessons enjoyable, which motivates students to stay with it,” explained Tan. “Also, in Yamaha Group Education, a parent attends the lessons with the child, which adds another level of motivation and provides parents and kids quality time together. It is no wonder that the Yamaha Music Education System has a proven track record around the globe of getting tangible results.”

More than 6 million students in 41 countries have studied at Yamaha Music Schools, making the Yamaha system the largest music education system in the world.  Based on 60 years of experience, Yamaha’s comprehensive method cultivates musical ability, creativity and a love of music. Students learn to hear, play, read, understand and appreciate every aspect of music. As they advance, children study performance, improvisation and composition. For adults, the Yamaha method offers a relaxing, stress-free environment enabling them to realize their lifelong dream of playing and better appreciating music.

Another element that sets 7 Notes apart is its teachers. Every instructor is required to take an intensive Yamaha Music training program at Yamaha headquarters in Buena Park, California, have a university degree in music, complete an in-house internship and graduate from an additional two-year Yamaha Music Education System teacher training program.

“We have a team of fun, loving music educators. Teachers are carefully selected not only for their musical training, but also for their ability to work well with children,” said Tan.

Age-appropriate classes are offered for all students, from infants to adults. Classes are limited to 12 students, and run all year long. Music-based summer camps and Yamaha lessons in piano, violin, voice and guitar are among the other educational programs offered at 7 Notes.

“Psychologists, neuroscientists and experts in early childhood development have demonstrated that music does more for children than bring them joy—it helps their brain cells make the connections needed for virtually every kind of intelligence,” Tan explained.  “Our curriculum and the Yamaha program are built on this research, so we are helping young children not only develop an appreciation for music, but also their early literacy, social and motor skills. All this, while having a great time with their mom or dad and other children.”

According to Tan, children are actually the role models at 7 Notes, which takes its name from the seven notes in music, “do, re, me, fa, so, la ti,” which offer a strong foundation for endless possibilities.

“Children are naturally curious, creative and imaginative, so we look to build on that, not change or limit it by trying to get kids to fit into some adult version of music education,” Tan said. “We are firm believers that kids learn best when they learn the most natural way possible and are having fun. We back that up with the international expertise of the Yamaha Musical Education System and our team of nurturing, well-trained music educators.”
